PROJECTS

Mosaic Tile Project

The mosaic tile project we did in FACS 245 replicated a puzzle. In the end puzzles look beautiful and unique, but the process of finishing a puzzle can be messy, confusing, and different. That is the exact challenge we were given. It was neat to share tile pieces with each other. The design I created had a beach vibe to it. One would probably see it in a beach cottage. The incorporation of white tiles with blue shaped was easy on the eye and represented the ocean blues and light skies. I decided to put the focus on the blue in the middle of the square to draw the eye in.

Stained Glass

The aim of this project is to create a work of stained glass that could be used in the home as a decorative piece, for function or for whatever the homeowner desires. This piece specifically could be seen in a beach house as the colors reflect the colors of summer and all the joy it brings. While this design is not the most complex, is it easy on the eyes and creates a sense of warmth to whoever lays eyes on it.

Portrait

For this project, I took pictures of four of my family members and friends and then proceeded to cut strips of photographs and weave them into a portrait of my face. The process was tricky but the end result proved to be very meaningful. My face is black and white and my family/friends are color. These four specific people have shaped me into the young woman I am today.

Quilt

When designing this quilt, I wanted several colors that complimented each other well and that were subtle. I decided to go with a grayish, pink, and gold theme. The colors give off a cozy vibe that is easy on the eyes. There was no specific pattern to this project, but I wanted to keep the classic square look. I tried to keep like patterns away from each other which was a small challenge but manageable. I think this pattern would make for a pretty throw quilt in a warm colored room.

Trash to Treasure

The artist that inspired my trash to treasure project is Howard Finster. I turned a small sled into a jewelry hanger. I did this by painting the sled white, adding two rods as hangers, and creating a design inspired by Finster. This entire project was supposed to be under $35. The sled itself was $1.00 and the rods were $3.00 coming to a total of $4.00 for the overall project cost.
