INTERIOR DESIGN III
The Course:
ID III is an advanced Interior Design course that explores how humans interface with the built environment, and how interior design can successfully support their needs.
The Project:
In this semester-long research-based course, we were tasked with creating an entire Senior Living Facility from start to finish. We go through every phase of the design process from the site evaluation and proposals, to the finished room renderings.
ADJACENCY MATRIX
Our first task was to create an adjacency matrix that included all of the required elements listed in the assisted living facility, along with the additional amenities we chose to include. We color coded it based on high-level categories (public, memory, support, assisted living, etc.)
Created with: Photoshop & Procreate on iPad
BUBBLE DIAGRAM
Following the Adjacency Matrix with our Bubble Diagrams, we utilized the information from our adjacency matrix, to inform how our bubble diagram would look. We did the bubble diagram by hand and used color to help guide and organize the rooms & layout.

BLOCKING DIAGRAM
The blocking diagram is the precursor for our preliminary floor plan, and it helped us determine the shape and general layout of our building’s floor plan. This diagram shows the relationship between
spaces and different areas
in the building.

PRELIMINARY FLOORPLAN
This phase of the project began to bridge our blocking diagram to our final plan. Doors, windows, airlocks, corridors, and vertical
transportation was
drafted in this phase.

REFINED FLOORPLAN
This phase included the revision of our preliminary floor plans. This phase was executed digitally. These plans included general furniture layouts for all the areas,
including but not
limited to, the dining
facilities, offices,
and all of the
apartments and
private memory
care rooms.

CONCEPT SKETCHES
For the concept sketches, we had to draw a layout for the reception desk, nurse’s station, one dining room, and two of your proposed amenities. Of these, at least three must be perspective drawings. Created with: Procreate on iPad
RENDERED DINING &
APARTMENT ROOM PLANS
We were tasked with rendering the dining and apartment rooms with any medium we liked.
I chose to do my apartment plans in
Twin Motion and my dining renderings
in Sketchup's Podium.

FINAL POSTER PRESENTATIONS
This assignment was to appeal to the client’s marketing department by using two vertically oriented 24”w x 36”h posters.
